It introduced a clunky melee combat system, although fighting was generally not a good idea. Penumbra: Overture was the first game of the two, albeit it is somewhat rough around the edges, which is only to be expected considering it was Frictional’s first, highly experimental title. It is with these games that the studio made its horror debut and first introduced the key innovation that would go on to define Amnesia and many other games that would follow in its footsteps. The first and most obvious entry on the list is Frictional’s own Penumbra series. Evil Inside did a much better job at recreating PT, and i highly recommend that game, plus it only cost $10 and is on PS4/5, PC, Xbox One/Series X|S.Penumbra: Overture and Penumbra: Black Plague Visage tries so hard to be PT, and it fails hard. He has no backstory and no reasoning is given for the events of the game. The character you play as, Dwayne, wasn’t even great. The “puzzles” are also dumb and make no sense. The movement speed of the character is also ridiculously slow, and that’s annoying when you’re trying to get away from a ghost coming after you. The inventory system is also a mess and could have been better implemented, i never really got the hang of it, even by the end of the game. It’s a confusing mess that has you wondering around for hours feeling directionless and you don’t know if you’re making progress or not. It’s a confusing mess that has you wondering around for hours Visage isn’t even a great horror game, it’s not even a good game in general. Visage isn’t even a great horror game, it’s not even a good game in general. Well.I need more of a purpose to s*** my pants. Running away from creepy dudes is always tense, but why am I here? Where am i running to? What is the point if I don't have any context for any of this stuff? Just give me at least a little bit of context before you make me walk through this same corridor for the fifth time! I think the developers built a series of spooky environments, some spooky looking enemies, made everything real dark and spooky-like.then they figured out what the rest of the game was meant to be about. I don't have too much of a problem slowly walking around a spooky house and clicking light switches and finding keys and all that usual stuff you find in indie horrors. And there are some story beats to appreciate. The game's problem I wouldn't doubt that the game is pretty terrifying. I wouldn't doubt that the game is pretty terrifying. This game took many years to make, and now we know why. and want a damn terrifying experience, this is a must. Nothing will ever replace losing Silent Hills, and Konami’s absolutely idiotic decision to pull P.T. But other entities are beautifully horrific, and the design and craftsmanship of the game world is utterly spectacular. The one miss is human models are pretty ugly, and can be a bit jarring the first time they show up. While this could be frustrating, as long as you look everywhere (walls, floors and ceilings included) you should find your way. The puzzles and exploration are designed to be for detail oriented players, as it is not always obvious what to do. The inventory system feels burdensome at first, but once you’ve passed the curve it works perfectly. There are also many frightening moments that you could easily miss, perfectly executed little scares that are designed for if you happen to be in one exact spot facing one exact way, always keeping you on your toes. Not only is this game filled to the brim with atmosphere, the developers also made varied and interesting gameplay out of the “no-combat” approach to horror, keeping things fresh. While that can make one as trepidatious as they are excited, know that of all the games to follow in Kojima and Del Toro’s wake, this game has found the essence of that brand of horror and elevated it to something unique. While that can make one as trepidatious as they are excited, know that of all the games to follow in Visage was birthed from the death of P.T. Visage was birthed from the death of P.T.
